Jemma Purfield currently plays for Southampton Women, having joined the club in 2023. She has established herself as a key player, contributing her experience and versatility as the team continues to push for success in the Women’s Championship.
Jemma began her playing career with Doncaster Rovers Belles, becoming the club’s youngest-ever signing and Women’s Super League player at the time.
She has represented England at U15, U17, U19, and U23 levels, competing in two European Championship Finals before moving to the U.S. in 2015. There, she captained both the South Alabama Jaguars and Arizona State Sun Devils.
During her time in America, Jemma was awarded the Sun Belt League Player of the Year and earned All-American Honours, recognising her as one of the Top 33 players in the country. She was also placed on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watchlist for National Player of the Year
Jemma graduated with a first-class degree in Sport and Exercise Science and returned to England in 2019, signing for Liverpool. After her contract expired, she joined Bristol City on a two-year deal, helping them finish as 2021 FA Women’s League Cup runners-up. She then moved to Leicester City Women at the start of the 2021/22 season, where she became an integral part of their defense as a left-back. During her time at Leicester, she earned nominations for the Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month and the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month.
